A host of Liverpool’s first team stars returned to training today as Brendan Rodger’s side continue their pre-season preparations on the Harvard University campus at Cambridge, Massachusetts. Fans will be glad to see the likes of Glen Johnson, Martin Kelly, Jordan Henderson, Andy Carroll, captain, Steven Gerrard and new signing, Fabio Borini, entering the fold fit, healthy and raring to go. The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool chairman, Tom Werner, has bestowed upon Rodgers full control of the situation regarding Andy Carroll’s future at the club. Werner told Sky Sports News ‘Brendan is clearly the leader here. The only thing I can say is we will do what is best for the club’. Noticeably, the 6’4ft striker looked decidedly relaxed during his first training session back with the squad, even amid the endless speculation.

Only a few days after reigniting the racism debate, Liverpool front man, Luis Suarez, has hinted at his contempt toward the English press, claiming that they ‘matter least’ to him. He went on to say ‘I am representing Uruguay and that’s all that matters to me’ but was keen to brush aside suggestions that his knowledge of the English game will give him a distinct advantage going into the tournament.

Hoops vice-chairman, Amit Bhatia, has confirmed their interest in signing Craig Bellamy. The 33 year old – who is currently representing Great Britain at the Olympics – has only a year left in his contract and has also been linked with a return to Cardiff City. ‘Craig is definitely a name that has been mentioned, a name we’ve discussed,’ admitted Bhatia but he also told of ‘a few options’ as Tottenham’s Jermaine Defoe has also been linked to QPR.

Joe Cole has heaped praise on new manager, Brendan Rodgers, claiming ‘every training session is brilliant’. The England international spent last season on loan at Ligue 1 side, Lille, and now seems determined to establish more opportunities at Anfield with Rodgers himself speaking of his admiration of the 30 year old days ago.
