The 20-year-old, who can operate as a left-back or in midfield, has said that he is going to find it hard to break into the Liverpool first team next season.
The youngster wants to play first-team football during the 2020-21 campaign and plans to go out on loan.
Lewis told Liverpool’s official website: “I haven’t played much during the past 12 months so the main thing is to stay fit, stay healthy, stay safe and keep everyone else safe.
“I would like to get out on loan, which is my aim for next season to get that experience. Sometimes people will ask me why aren’t I at Melwood or training with the first team, but you’ve got to realise you are playing for the best team in the world.
“This is probably one of the hardest teams to get into right now, so getting out on loan and being around a senior environment will help me as a player because I’ll be training with men.”
Good plan?
Lewis made his debut for the Liverpool first team against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup this season.
The England Under-20 international is unlikely to even get on the substitutes’ bench at Liverpool next season.
Playing youth football is not really going to help the youngster much in his development and progress as a footballer.
A move out on loan to a club in the Championship or to a lower-end team in the Premier League would be massive for the 20-year-old.
True, the youngster would still have to work hard and would have to fight for his place in the team, but he would stand a better chance of being in the team.
