What a first season Aaron Ramsdale is having at Arsenal.
Many-an-eyebrow was raised last summer when Arsenal dropped £30 million on a relegation-prone goalkeeper from Sheffield United.
However, when the Premier League Team of the Season is announced, Ramsdale has a very good chance of being on it.
That’s because the 24-year-old has been nothing short of exceptional since joining the North Londoners.
Whether it’s for acrobatic saves or his passionate reactions to those same saves, or goals, or even penalty misses as Bruno Fernandes found out last week, Arsenal supporters absolutely adore their new hero between the sticks.
And the same, it seems, is true of Arthur Okonkwo.
The 20-year-old is the Gunners’ third-choice goalkeeper, behind Ramsdale and Bernd Leno.
But Okonkwo has nothing but positive things to say about the former, except perhaps that he’s ‘a little bit crazy’.
He told Goal.com: “As soon as Aaron came in [last summer] you could see his character and how he presented himself every day. I have to say, I’ve never met anyone like Aaron before. He’s a little bit crazy, but an amazing guy and he’s a great person to be around.”
Ramsdale is testament to Arteta’s judgement when it comes to talent.
That’s because it was the Spaniard who pushed to sign Ramsdale, with Edu being reluctant to bring him to the Emirates Stadium [The Athletic], as covered by HITC Sport.
But what a phenomenal addition he’s been and no doubt it’ll give Arteta the confidence to go against his Brazilian colleague a little more during the summer transfer window, if he truly believes in it.
