Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, David Seaman has been discussing Reiss Nelson after his performance against Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
The winger scored twice and assisted once off the bench against the Reds in what could end up being a breakout performance for the 22-year-old, but he didn’t have the brightest of starts.
Indeed, when he first came off the bench, Nelson struggled to really make much of an impact, and Seaman even speculated that the youngster could be subbed off after being subbed on.
However, Seaman was quickly made to eat his words as Nelson quickly bagged a brace and an assist.

Nelson proved Seaman wrong
The former Arsenal goalkeeper spoke about the winger and his observations.
“Do you know what is weird, when he came on in the first half for Saka, he’d been on for a while and I said to my friend ‘he’s not really affecting the game much and I wonder if the sub will get subbed.’ And then he scored two. I swear, literally 10 seconds later he scored. Never mind what I say, take no notice. He scored another one straight away and I was like ‘yeah, I don’t think he’ll get taken off’,” Seaman said.
Came to life
Nelson didn’t look immediately bright off the bench, but as soon as he got his goal the winger came to life.
Nelson is clearly a player who thrives when he’s feeling confident and there’s no better way to give yourself a huge boost than finding the back of the net.
After his goal, he seemed to play with so much more freedom, and it’s no shock that another goal and an assist soon followed.
Hardly anyone would’ve predicted Nelson to put on that sort of show against Forest, but this could now be the perfect platform for the attacker to build on.
