Sam Allardyce urged West Ham boss David Moyes on talkSPORT (25/08/21 at 7:15 am) to ‘get spending’ before Tuesday’s deadline.
West Ham haven’t done much business this summer and they perhaps need another option to Michail Antonio.
The 31-year-old blew Leicester City away on Monday night, by netting a brace and supplying an assist during West Ham’s 4-1 win at the London Stadium.
But there are, of course, those injury concerns with the forward, and given that the Hammers are in Europe, fans will be that more worried about possibly losing him to the treatment room.
As a result, Allardyce urged Moyes to bring someone in because they can’t rely on Antonio.
“It’s massively important (Antonio stays fit),” said Allardyce. “Moyes hasn’t dipped into the market for a centre-forward yet.
“If he’s going to sustain what was a great season last season and this season. And being in Europe.
“Then, listen Moyesey get spending. Get those players as quickly as possible as you can because you know yourself the toils and tribulations of playing European football on Thursday then playing on a Sunday.
“It will massively, massively test your squad. You then have to rotate the team and then have the squad rotate it. The last thing you want to do is continue to play a player like Antonio and fatigue him.”

Allardyce will know full well why West Ham aren’t as busy as they should be this summer, even though Moyes has overachieved and got the club into Europe.
That’s where the West Ham fans and those running their ship don’t see eye-to-eye because this squad needs depth.
Even though Moyes has proved himself with the work he had done, they still haven’t brought in the outfield players required, especially a number nine.
Antonio’s injuries have faded away in recent times, but the club simply can’t afford or expect him to play Thursday and then Sunday on a regular basis.
