Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson told Sky Sports News that Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin let him take his now saved penalty for England on Sunday.

When Calvert-Lewin won the penalty for his country against Romania, many thought the Everton hitman would step up and take it, but instead, it was his Liverpool rival who took the honours.

Unfortunately for Henderson, his spot-kick was saved, which didn’t look well on the Liverpool player.

But after the game, Henderson shared that he felt ‘sorry’ for Everton’s number nine given what happened, but he was ‘more bothered’ about just getting minutes under his belt.

“I felt more sorry for Dom,” said Henderson. “He let us have it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the goal.

“Listen, I am not too fussed, to be honest. I am more bothered about getting back out there and it’s nice to be back.”

The only goal of the game actually came from the spot-kick, which was converted by Marcus Rashford after Jack Grealish was fouled.

But by the time the second penalty was awarded, the Manchester United man was off the field of play.

In normal circumstances, Calvert-Lewin would take the honours, but as he picked up the ball, it was Henderson, who was wearing the captain’s armband, who took responsibility.
