Lionel Messi has opened up on his reasoning behind signing for Inter Miami over a return to FC Barcelona, with the forward saying he wanted a new challenge.
Speaking on the Argentine TV show Llave to Eternity with quotes via Mundo Deportivo, the South American superstar revealed that he and his family are happy with the decision they made to move to Florida after talks with Inter Miami over the course of some years.
Messi said: “Well, we are happy with the decision we made. [I am] Prepared and eager to face the new challenge, the new change, my mentality and my head will not change and I will try where I have to be now to give the maximum for myself and for my new club and try to perform at the highest level.”

Messi’s departure from PSG last season saw the 35-year-old heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia as well as a stunning return to Barcelona. However, due to the Catalan club’s huge financial problems, a move was never going to be feasible despite how ideal it would have been.
Instead, Messi chose Inter Miami, and the reigning FIFA World Cup champions sounds excited about the prospect of playing in America and taking to life in Florida, with the attacker set to be unveiled as an official signing this Sunday.
Messi being sold on Inter Miami is huge for MLS

Superstar players have often been found quilty of coming to MLS only looking for one final payday before retiring and being set for life. Yet Messi, easily the biggest name North American soccer has even seen since the days of Pele, looks ready to be serious at Inter Miami.
As we know, the Argentine international is still one of the best players in the world, and Messi taking his talents to Florida and already publically stating that he wants to deliver in America is a huge boost for MLS, who will no doubt experience another surge in popularity this year.
