Brendan Rodgers spoke in awe of Tottenham striker Harry Kane to Sky Sports ahead of Leicester City’s showdown with Jose Mourinho’s title-chasers today.

Throughout his Premier League career, Kane has been known as a deadly-shooter in the final third, with qualities comparable to the likes of Alan Shearer and Spurs legend Teddy Sheringham.

But ever since Mourinho has started to warm his chair in North London, Tottenham’s deep-lying striker had added passing qualities to his game, which the likes of David Silva and Paul Scholes would be proud of.

However, some have questioned whether that has limited that goalscoring threat Kane has in his locker, but Rodgers insisted he hasn’t lost any qualities to his game, as he compared him to the likes of Roberto Firmino and Lionel Messi in regards to how he drops deep and makes the ball talk.

“I think if you look through the game, you look at Roberto Firmino, he does a similar role for Liverpool,” said Rodgers. “Lionel Messi did it for Barcelona. Other players have done it all through time.

“You’re not seeing something being taken away from Harry’s game. You’re seeing something that’s been added to his game. He’s clearly a wonderful goalscorer with great ability, finishing in and around 25 or 30 yards out.

“I don’t think anything has been taken away from his game. I think Jose has asked him to drop that little bit deeper and I think it’s his natural intelligence.

“In Harry, you can see he’s a wonderful player, he’s got a great football brain. You see him dropping underneath and having that ability to make those passes. So it’s an addition to how they play rather than something taken away from them.”

There’s no doubt that Kane is turning into the complete striker and, at the age of 27, this is where he starts hoping he can bring the trophies home.

It’s around this age that the 152-goal hitman will start hitting his peak and it looks like he has started to hit that mark already, it’s just a case of how high he can now go and for long he can keep it up for.

Two of Kane’s biggest strengths are his technical ability and intelligence – two qualities which will no doubt push him to perform at this level beyond his 30’s.
