Lionel Messi has promised to help Inter Miami grow and succeed after the soccer superstar was last night officially unveiled as a new signing.

Speaking to the 18,000-strong crowd via BBC Sport, the former PSG and FC Barcelona forward issued a statement to supporters that he was in Florida to compete and to take Inter Miami to new levels, with Tata Martino’s side dreaming big with Messi.

The biggest signing in MLS history, Messi’s arrival will bring the profile of the American top-flight to a whole new realm, with Spanish legend and former Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets also being announced as a new signing for the league and Inter Miami.

Indeed, Messi is seemingly excited to get started in America. And the forward could be massive in kick-starting Inter Miami’s rise to the top. The forward said: “I really want to start training, to compete. I have the same desire that I always had to compete, to want to win, to help the club continue to grow.

“I am very happy to have chosen to come to play in this city with my family, to choose this project and I have no doubt that we are going to enjoy it a lot. We are going to have a good time and very good things are going to happen.”

As we know, fans will flock to Inter Miami games with Messi now on the roster and set to be ready to play as early as this week. Meaning the Herons could soon be ready to become powerhouses in the game with the 35-year-old as their leading man.
