Kagawa was linked with both Everton and West Ham in the summer.

Shinji Kagawa has been quoted by the Japan Times as saying that he is keen to leave Borussia Dortmund in the upcoming January transfer window – and that should put Everton and West Ham United on red alert.

Kagawa, 29, has plummeted down the pecking order at Borussia Dortmund, with the likes of Christian Pulisic, Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho preferred in attacking midfield. He has managed just two Bundesliga appearances all season.

Back in April, German outlet Fussballeck reported that West Ham and Everton wanted to sign Kagawa from Dortmund, who has just two years remaining on his current contract with the Bundesliga outfit.

Now, they could reignite their interest in the ex-Manchester United playmaker after he stated that he is keen to leave Dortmund and is already considering his options. His preference, though, is a move to Spain.

“I want to find a solution to this situation [lack of game time]. One is to change teams,” Kagawa said. “I have this growing sense of wishing to change my environment and take on new challenges.

“I cannot end my career as a football player without going to Spain. I absolutely want to achieve that.”

During his short stint with United between 2012 and 2014, Kagawa clocked up 57 appearances in all competitions – scoring six goals and creating 10 more.

Leaving Dortmund to join United, ESPN claim he rejoined the German outfit in 2014 for a fee of just £6.5million. Now, he is looking to leave the Bundesliga outfit again and that may tempt West Ham and Everton.
