Newcastle were linked with a deadline-day move for Liverpool rock Klavan.

Liverpool defender Ragnar Klavan is reportedly set to leave the Premier League outfit and join Serie A outfit Cagliari this summer for just £2million – despite being linked with a deadline-day move to Newcastle United.
The Liverpool Echo have claimed Liverpool have accepted a £2million offer from Cagliari for the 32-year-old, and a move is expected to be confirmed sooner rather than later.
But it remains to be seen why Newcastle decided against buying the former Augsburg hardman, with Liverpool willing to offload the defender for a tiny fee of £2million – as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield.

Newcastle desperately needed a new centre-back this summer after the injury to Florian Lejeune, and that saw them land Federico Fernandez from Swansea City on deadline day for a fee believed to be in the region of £6million.
But owner Mike Ashley could have saved a whole wedge of cash by landing Klavan for a bargain £2million. Instead, Klavan looks likely to be off to Italy after Cagliari had a six-figure offer accepted.
