Liverpool have shown interest in the past so will Wolverhampton Wanderers need to be promoted to keep hold of Ruben Neves?
Nuno Espirito Santo, the Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach, shouts instructions during the Sky Bet Championship match against Bristol City.
Wolverhampton Wanderers remain top of the Championship after 13 matches following their 3-2 home victory against Preston North End.
After a bumper summer of spending there was intrigue about how Wolves would get on under new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo but at the moment it is a case of so far, so good.
Ruben Neves of Wolverhampton Wanderers runs with the ball during the Sky Bet Championship match against Bristol City.
The poster boy for this new era at Molineux is also the division’s most expensive ever player in Ruben Neves, who was signed from Porto for £15.8m (BBC).
There were certainly some raised eyebrows when Neves made the switch to Wolverhampton considering he holds the record for being the youngest captain in Champions League history and has earned caps for the Portugal senior team.
The 20-year-old has shown his class already with his superb technique and passing skills and having been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool in the past – as reported by the Independent – surely England’s biggest sides are now even more aware of the midfielder’s talents.
Ruben Neves missed an opportunity to score a goal during the UEFA U-21 European Championship Group B football match Spain v Portugal.
Which is why Espirito Santo’s side will probably need to be promoted to the Premier League this season if they want to keep hold of Neves, despite the fact the Portuguese signed a five-year contract when he arrived at the club.
The youngster is clearly too good for the second tier and while things are on track currently, if there were to miss out on the top flight then surely then cannot be surprised when the former Porto man looks to leave?
