Leeds United were seemingly after the signature of Chelsea youth product Jack Clarke-Salter in the summer, but he ended up moving to Birmingham City.

Leeds United’s decision to bring Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Ben White to the club has proven to be a very smart move by the club, and that’ll be proven even further when Birmingham City visit Elland Road on Saturday.

The reason being, when the summer transfer window was open, Leeds were linked with a number of high-profile players, including at centre-back because it was an area they needed to fill.

One name that was being touted to potentially make a move to Yorkshire on a season-long loan was Chelsea youth product, Jake Clarke Salter, as reported by The Sun.

Despite Leeds interest, the Chelsea man ended up making a switch to the Midlands and to Birmingham City instead, where he is struggling to even get onto the pitch to earn some minutes.

The 22-year-old centre-back has only played 83 minutes of football for a pretty youthful Birmingham City side, who made a number of changes to their squad in the summer [transfermarkt].

Clarke-Salter’s struggles to even get onto the pitch is proof that Leeds made an absoutle brilliant call not to push through a deal for the Premier League player.

If a deal for Clarke-Salter had materialised then, more than likely, White would not be bossing proceedings at Elland Road, and would be working wonders for someone else in the second-tier.

There’s no doubt that out of the two, Clarke-Salter is the more recognisable name, and on paper, he is the one you would push for because of the club he is at.

But the Leeds faithful will be glad that their club did not go with what was on paper because Clarke-Salter will travel to Elland Road with his Birmingham side at the weekend where he will more than likely be sitting on the bench.

There is still a long way to go and Clarke-Salter can still prove his worth, but White’s addition in the summer has been a masterstroke of a move regardless of what the Birmingham man does or does not do this season.
