Mehdi Hagitali, the agent of Rostov striker Sardar Azmoun, has told rsport.ru that his client isn’t looking to leave the club amid links to both Everton and Liverpool.

Azmoun, 21, has long been tipped as a star of the future, even earning the tag as ‘the Iranian Messi’ during his time with former club Rubin Kazan.

Now, after scoring 14 goals in 37 games during a loan spell, Azmoun is with Rostov having penned a contentious permanent deal over the summer, in which Rostov triggered a buyout clause that Rubin claim never existed.

Whilst that situation is still being looked over by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, Azmoun is continuing to impress for Rostov, and even opened his Champions League account by scoring against Atletico Madrid earlier this month.

His performances haven’t gone unnoticed; The Guardian reported just last week that Liverpool are keen to sign Azmoun as Jurgen Klopp looks for a new striker, whilst the report also credited Everton and Stoke City with an interest in the Iranian international, who has scored 16 goals in 22 games for his country.

Everton’s Iranian owner Farhad Moshiri would no doubt love to land the big star of Iranian football, but Liverpool’s interest means there could be a big battle ensuing for Azmoun’s signature.

With that in mind, Azmoun’s agent Mehdi Hagitali has told rsport.ru that he has read about Liverpool’s interest, but has yet to receive a proposal from any club, whether foreign or domestic.

Hagitali added that Azmoun is in no rush to leave Rostov, partly because he wants to become the best striker in the Russian Premier League, and partly because manager Kurban Berdyev is ‘like a father to him’ – but if any proposals were received, they would be considered.

“I read about Liverpool’s interest in Sardar, but I can say that at present there have been no formal proposals at all—from either foreign or Russian clubs,” said Hagitali. “Azmoun is not looking to leave the club in a hurry. Now his main goal is to become the best striker the Russian Premier League.”

“Besides, Kurban Berdyev is like a father to him, and he would like to continue to work with the coach. However, if some of the proposals do come, we will look at them,” he added.
