Hugill was linked with a move to Leeds earlier this summer from West Ham.
Jordan Hugill has told the Teesside Gazette that he has been impressed by Leeds United as he prepares to face the Whites on Friday night with loan side Middlesbrough.
Hugill, 26, joined Boro on a season-long loan from West Ham United this summer after failing to make an impact in east London since being signed by David Moyes from Preston North End in January.
The Sun claimed target man Hugill was interesting Leeds in July, before Marcelo Bielsa’s side decided to spend big on Patrick Bamford. Hugill was signed by Boro as Bamford’s replacement at the Riverside.
He spoke ahead of Friday’s clash between the two sides, who currently sit in first and second place in the Championship table – level on 13 points after five games. Hugill said he has been impressed by Leeds, and expects a tough test.
“We started well and I definitely think we are ready for Leeds now,” Hugill said. “It is going to be a good test for us with the start they’ve had and the start we’ve had. They’re a good side but we’ve matched them point for point.
“It is going to be a good game and personally I believe we can come out on top. I’d love that. I can’t wait. It’s great to have such a big test so early. We’ve both started so well and to get one over the other team now could prove vital later.”
Hugill opened his account for the club he supported as a boy on Tuesday night, scoring the winner in the second round of the Carabao Cup against Rochdale with a header to win 2-1.
Leeds, however, come into the game off the back of their first loss under Argentine boss Bielsa. They lost 2-0 to Preston at Elland Road, but they did make nine changes and they will be hoping to bounce back immediately.
