Sunderland may regret not moving for prolific forward Bas Dost.
Sunderland manager David Moyes
Sunderland sit at the foot of the Premier League table, fighting for their lives once again to stay in England’s top tier.
They have been reliant on the goals from Jermain Defoe, failing to add competition for him last summer in a woeful transfer window that set up their disappointing 2016/17 campaign.
One player they were linked to but did not sign, has gone on to become a roaring success, and that is Dutch international striker Bas Dost.
The Sun reported last June that the Black Cats were lining up a move for Bas Dost after he was made available by Wolfsburg, where he had scored 24 league goals in two seasons.

Sunderland still had Sam Allardyce at the time, but even under David Moyes they had a chance to land the striker, who ended up leaving Wolfsburg for Sporting Lisbon in late August.
The failure to land the Dutchman is looking like a missed opportunity, with the striker scoring 22 goals in 22 games in Portugal’s Primeira Liga this season.
He scored four times at the weekend in a 4-1 victory for Sporting, and would surely be beyond Sunderland’s reach this summer if they decided to go back in for him.
This season Jermain Defoe has netted 14 league goals for the Black Cats, but the nearest teammate is Victor Anichebe who has only three.
Bas Dost could have been a huge difference maker had they pursued their interest.
