Manchester City are reportedly plotting a huge bid for Ruben Neves.

Tottenham Hotspur endured a frustrating summer with no new signings, though they have at least kicked off the new Premier League season with wins over Newcastle United and Fulham.

Spurs couldn’t bring in any new faces to boost Mauricio Pochettin’s squad, becoming the first Premier League club to fail to make a single summer signing since the transfer window came into effect.

Pochettino may still have his sights on some of his summer targets, though one linked player may just be out of reach already, only four months after links to Tottenham emerged.

The Mirror reported back in April that Spurs wanted to land Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves in an ambitious move, given that Wolves were unlikely to let him go after their promotion to the top flight.

The Portuguese sensation really had no business playing in the Championship last season, scoring six goals and showing stunning long-range shooting ability having joined from Porto last summer.

Neves could have been outstanding in the Spurs midfield, displaying the perfect technical ability to dictate play, as well as having the energy and attacking play to be a force going forward, just like Mousa Dembele.

However, The Sun now report that Manchester City are plotting a huge £60million bid for Neves; a fee which would not only be a club-record deal for Tottenham, but would surely be far beyond what Daniel Levy is willing to pay.

Neves has already shown promise in the Premier League, and that price tag is bound to keep rising and rising given that Wolves are under little pressure to sell unless Jorge Mendes forces a move through, and he may just be one target that has slipped beyond Tottenham’s grasp since the rumour started just four months ago.
