Nottingham Forest playmaker Jesse Lingard has praised Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford on Instagram after England lost to France in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Lingard, who left Manchester United in the summer of 2022 and moved to Forest on a free transfer, has said that he is proud of Rashford.

England suffered a 2-1 defeat to France in the quarter-finals on Saturday evening.

Rashford played in the match and had a chance to score late on with a free kick.

The United forward’s effort went agonisingly close.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane failed to convert his second penalty late on in the match, having got the better of his Spurs teammate and France international goalkeeper Hugo Lloris from the spot earlier in the second half.

Rashford made one start and four substitute appearances for England at the 2022 Qatar World Cup.

The 25-year-old £225,000-a-week (SalarySport) star scored three goals in those matches.

England have done well in the last three major competitions, although they have not won them.

Gareth Southgate’s side reached the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia and progressed to the final of Euro 2020.

Rashford has taken to Instagram to react to England’s World Cup campaign, and Lingard is among those who have praised him.
