Newcastle United are interested in signing Jesse Lingard from Manchester United, according to The Telegraph.
What’s the story?
It has been reported that the new Newcastle owners have discussed the possibility of signing United attacking midfielder Lingard.
The report has claimed that the Magpies wanted to sign the 28-year-old on loan from the Red Devils in January 2021.
However, the England international – who earns £110,000 per week as salary, according to The Sun – turned it down to join West Ham United.
Lingard is now back at the Red Devils and is struggling for playing time.
The 28-year-old, who can also operate as a winger, has played 45 minutes in the Premier League for United so far this season, scoring two goals in the process.

Could a Newcastle transfer happen?
Mike Ashley is no longer the owner of Newcastle.
An investment group led by the Public Investment Fund (PIF), and also comprising PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media, have taken over Newcastle.
The Magpies have grand plans, and Lingard could now find it very appealing to make a move to Newcastle.
Now, of course, the Magpies are not going to challenge for the Premier League title or the European places straightaway, but Lingard could be part of a successful project in the medium term.
Lingard is only 28, and it is a shame that he is not playing regularly now.
