Yesterday saw Rangers compete with Irish club Linfield in a testimonial fixture for 30-year-old midfielder Jamie Mulgrew.

The midfield veteran joined Linfield in 2005 from Glentoran and has been an ever present for the Blues ever since.

To commemorate his time at Windsor Park Linfield took on Rangers during the international break.

The Glasgow side however were not set to treat this as a testimonial. Mark Warburton is still trying to bed in several Rangers players at Ibrox and was ready to use this game as a chance to bed some of his players in more.

That they did. Rangers thumped Linfield 7-0 in a cutthroat performance.

However, Mulgrew was not downbeat. He tweeted after the game his thanks to the Glasgow side and their manager Mark Warburton for playing their part in a special evening:

Rangers fans will of course be very pleased with the result, going into the Old Firm derby after the international break – whilst there were some impressive performances throughout the team.

A similar scoreline v their fiercest rivals next week would certainly go down well at Ibrox.
