Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s comments about Manchester United.
Klopp was not a happy man after his Liverpool side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League on Monday evening.
The German boss said that forward Sadio Mane – who cost the Reds £34 million in transfer fees when they signed him from Southampton in the summer of 2016, as reported by BBC Sport – should have been given a penalty.
Klopp added that there was also a handball by Jack Stephens that was not given.
The Liverpool boss told The Daily Star: “Manchester United had more penalties in two years than me in five and a half years. But we have no excuses for tonight. We weren’t good enough.
“What Andre Marriner did with Sadio Mane tonight, I’m not sure that’s okay. He should have had a penalty, and there was the handball – I’ve no idea.”
Tottenham Hotspur legend Lineker has given his take on Klopp’s comments about United winning more penalties than his side on Twitter.
Big game coming up
The defeat to Southampton means that Liverpool are at the top of the Premier League table with 33 points from 17 matches.
Liverpool’s bitter rivals United also have 33 points, and they have a game in hand.
The Reds and the Red Devils will face each other at Anfield in the Premier League on January 17.
It will be a massive game and should be a hugely entertaining affair.
