Sheffield United’s promotion to the Premier League has been confirmed.

Alan Shearer looks on prior to the Premier League match between Liverpool FC and Newcastle United at Anfield on December 26, 2018 in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

Sheffield United were in party mode on Saturday evening as they all but secured promotion to the Premier League – and now, they’re officially up.

The Blades beat already-relegated Ipswich Town 2-0 at Bramall Lane on Saturday, with Scott Hogan scoring a first-half opener before Jack O’Connell’s towering header made it 2-0.

That gave United a six point lead over Leeds United, and with a huge goal advantage over the Whites, Chris Wilder’s men were basically up, barring a miracle.

The promotion is now confirmed though, as Leeds could only draw with Aston Villa today, and the barmy scenes from Sheffield last night will be continuing this evening.

It’s just two years ago that United were winning promotion from League One, and now they find themselves back in the Premier League for the first time since 2007.

The promotion campaign has been made even better because boss Wilder and captain Billy Sharp are both boyhood Blades fans, and are leading their club into the top flight together.

Now, pundit Alan Shearer has taken to Twitter to congratulate Sharp and the Blades on promotion, feeling that Sharp deserves promotion.

Gary Lineker also passed on his well-wishes to the club, as he gears up to introduce them back to Match of the Day for next season.
