Gary Lineker has issued a one-word verdict on what Everton did for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford before today’s game.
The Toffees displayed a message on the big screen for the England international, which read: ‘Thank you for sticking up for our kids who needed a voice, here on Merseyside and across the country.’
In reaction to the message, Lineker tweeted: ‘Classy’.
It was a heartwarming moment where football was put to one side for a moment, and an opposition player’s efforts were commendably praised by Everton.
Rashford – who Spotrac say earns £200,000-a-week at Old Trafford – has worked tirelessly to end child food poverty across the United Kingdom.
As of October 30th, the 23-year-old tweeted that over seven million meals a week had been distributed to the UK’s most vulnerable children.

In response to Everton’s gesture, he wrote: ‘I don’t even really know what to say other than thank you. I’ve stood in awe of Merseyside and how you have worked to tackle this issue head on, and the contributions that you make to the foodbanks to protect the most vulnerable. You should all be very proud of yourselves.’
Unfortunately for the Toffees, Rashford’s good work extended onto the Goodison Park pitch as he helped Manchester United come from behind to record a 3-1 win.

After full-time in Saturday’s early kick-off, Carlo Ancelotti’s men were left sat in fifth, having dropped down from the summit after losing three games in a row.
Amazingly, it is the first time that the Italian coach has lost three league games in a row in 14 years, since he did so with AC Milan back in November 2006 as the Independent’s Melissa Reddy tweeted.
