Danny Cowley and assistant brother Nicky were wanted by Barnsley but chose to stay at Lincoln.

Barnsley are yet to appoint a permanent successor as manager to Paul Heckingbottom following his departure to take charge at Leeds United.
Several names have been linked with the position including Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley, who has greatly impressed since taking over at Sincil Bank in the summer of 2016.

Cowley, along with assistant brother Nicky, lead the Imps to the National League title last season and promotion back to the EFL and they are currently two points off the playoffs in League Two and are in the final of the Checkatrade Trophy.
Still only 39-years-old he is considered to be one of the most exciting young coaches in English football and it is therefore perhaps little surprise the Tykes showed interest.
Yet as HITC Sport revealed last week, Cowley turned down the chance to take over at Oakwell to remain at Lincoln and while speaking as a pundit on Channel 5’s Championship programme, has now explained why.

“For us we want to finish what we start. We love Lincoln and we’re really appreciative of them allowing us to go full-time for the first time.” he said.
“It’s a club that we think a lot of. We’re on a journey and we feel like we’re making progress every day and while we do that we’re really focused on what we’re trying to achieve there.”
Presenter Colin Murray asked Cowley if he spoke for his brother as well, to which he replied: “Without a doubt.”
