Lille sporting director Gerard Lopez has told Footmercato that talks are underway over a deal for reported Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers target Jonathan David.

The Canadian striker is set to move clubs this summer after a terrific campaign.

David notched 22 goals for Gent, attracting the interests of a host of top clubs.

A report by Walfoot back in February claimed several Premier League clubs were scouting him, including Spurs and Wolves.

But Lille appear to be pushing the most for his signature right now, with Gerard Lopez claiming he has heard how David is keen to join the French club.

“Jonathan David is a player who interests us. He more than fits in to the project we have here. I have heard he is also interested to join us. We are in talks,” Lopez explained.

If Spurs and Wolves are serious in their interest, they must make a move for him soon.

Tottenham are crying out for another forward option. Harry Kane’s absence through injury left Jose Mourinho’s side struggling for goals, ultimately ending their top four hopes.

Spurs will surely look at a new fullback and creative midfielder also, but another striker must top their wish-list ahead of next season.

Wolves, meanwhile, may be looking at another attacking option to take the goal scoring burden off Mexico international striker Raul Jimenez.

At the age of just 20, David has a huge future ahead of him and he becomes the second Canadian star to make the headlines after Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.

French editorial Le10sport claim Gent are seeking a £22.5 million fee for their prized asset.
