PSV Eindhoven coach Roger Schmidt has admitted that Euro 2020 stars Denzel Dumfries and Donyell Malen are ‘likely to leave’ amid interest from Premier League duo Everton and Liverpool, while speaking to NOS.
While Holland’s campaign ended in disappointment on Sunday – beaten 2-0 in the round-of-16 by a granit-carved Czech Republic side – two members of Frank de Boer’s squad can look back on the European Championships with a great deal of personal satisfaction.
Dumfries, the rampaging right-back and Fantasy Football favourite, was nothing short of a revelation, following up that dramatic late winner against Ukraine with another goal against Austria in the group-stages.
PSV teammate Malen certainly made his mark too, ousting Wout Weghorst as De Boer’s number one centre-forward and catching the eye with his searing pace and intelligent link-play.
Are two of Holland’s Euro 2020 stars heading to the Premier League?
“Denzel has played two and a half games and was involved in many goals. He showed his attacking quality. Donyell also did well when he played,” said Schmidt, before admitting that both players have probably outgrown the relatively small pond that is the Eredivisie.
“That’s how it goes in football, especially at PSV. We lose one or two good players every year.
“It has been clear to me for some time that Donyell and Denzel are likely to leave. Actually, since last summer.

“I also take it into account and if they do stay, that is great. But we have to prepare ourselves that we will have to play without both next season.”
According to the Eindhoven Dagblad, Everton director Marcel Brands is keen to raid his old employers for Dumfries.
The PSV captain already has plenty of admirers on the Goodison Park terraces too, on the back of his outstanding performances at Euro 2020.
And there is a chance that Malen will be joining his good friend on Merseyside.
Liverpool are in the market for a new central striker and, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Malen’s £22 million price-tag is unlikely to scare off the Anfield giants.
