Jamie Carragher has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino reaching the Champions League final with Tottenham is ‘like winning the treble with Manchester United’, as he told Webby and O’Neil.
The Sky pundit suggested Pochettino as the next possible candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Old Trafford.
Pochettino managed two Premier League during his days in England – Southampton and Spurs.
Both clubs haven’t been the same since he left them, with the Argentine getting sacked by Daniel Levy months after reaching the final of the European Cup.
Carragher defended Pochettino, when putting his name forward as the next Man United boss, and this is what he also had to say about his time in North London.
“When Pochettino was at Spurs, every season, he finished above the biggest club in the world, who had loads more money,” said Carragher.
“Spurs are nowhere near one of the biggest clubs in the world. They are a level below.
“Tottenham haven’t challenged for a league title, I can’t remember in my lifetime, they did that under Pochettino.
“Tottenham reaching the Champions League final is like Manchester United winning the treble in 1999. Tottenham aren’t a club that win things. Pochettino, you can’t criticise him for going to Spurs, and a club that don’t win anything for years. He can only could do the job that he done.”

Many felt that Pochettino should have been backed a lot more when he was at Spurs, given the job he was doing.
Whilst he may not have got the depth in quality he craved for at White Hart Lane, well, he has it now in the colours of PSG.
That is proven by the front three he is able to put out in Paris in Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.
But could he return to England if Man United sack Ole, after that drubbing at the hands of Liverpool? Whether he does or doesn’t, Spurs fans would want him back given how things have panned for them of late.
