Paul Merson has claimed that there is ‘no way’ Arsenal will lose to Tottenham in the North London derby this Sunday, as he told talkSPORT (20/09/21 at 9:55 am).
The outspoken pundit claimed that Tottenham’s performance, against Chelsea yesterday, was like ‘watching an U-10’s team’, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side losing 3-0 in front of their own supporters – all three goals came in the second half.
Arsenal, on the other hand, secured back-to-back wins in the Premier League, after their 1-0 win at Burnley 24 hours earlier.
It’s back-to-back 1-0 wins for Arsenal, but back-to-back 3-0 defeats for their rivals against London clubs, all of which sets the perfect platform for their meeting this week.
Merson didn’t hold back in criticising Tottenham’s ‘shocking’ performance yesterday, as he shared his thoughts on the North London showdown.
“I think it’s a big game at the weekend against Tottenham,” said Merson. “It’s always a big game, anyway. But it becomes even bigger.
“I did a thing with Jamie (O’Hara) a couple of weeks ago about the Arsenal-Tottenham game and I had to sit there. And he absolutely rinsed me.
“He flew out today (from the talkSPORT studios). I said, even then when Arsenal had lost all three games and when Spurs had won all three games, that there is no way Arsenal will lose this football match.
“I don’t see Arsenal losing the game. There is a lot of pressure now on Tottenham. The game yesterday, in the end, it was a bit like watching an U-10’s team playing against a man’s team. It was shocking.”

This can be seen in a number of ways, but for Spurs, Harry Kane is yet to open his mark for the new Premier League season.
It’s not a good sign because of what happened in the summer and the obvious criticism that will get thrown at the player.
But, on the other hand, the England captain loves a goal in the North London derby.
And what a way for him to open his account, because if he does just that at the Emirates, then all will be forgotten about by the fans.
Not just for the players, but for the managers also, this is a huge game for their futures.
If either suffers a defeat then their supporters will be ready to pounce.
