Arsenal produced a massive victory away at Wolverhampton Wanderers tonight.
Mikel Arteta’s outfit moved fifth in the Premier League standings with a hard-fought 1-0 win at Molineux.
In what’s becoming a regular theme, Arsenal had to play the final 20 minutes with 10 men following a red card for Gabriel Martinelli.
However, the North Londoners dug extremely deep and repelled wave after wave of Wolves attack without ever looking in serious trouble.
Every Arsenal player looked a relieved figure after the game, with Arteta and many of the substitutes entering the pitch at full time.
And Ruben Neves has criticised what he feels is an overreaction to the win.
He said to BBC Sport: “We saw the way they celebrated the win and that shows the level we are. I didn’t see Arsenal celebrating like this in the past 10 years – it was like they won the league.”
It’s a very harsh assessment by the Portugal international, valued at £40 million.
Yes it was only a narrow victory – achieved by a goal from central defender Gabriel Magalhaes – but after so many of their top-four rivals dropped points in midweek, it was an enormous win for Arsenal.
And under the circumstances, having been down to 10 men once again, you can excuse their post-match celebrations for the most part.
