A reported Arsenal target has been likened to Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-min.
The Daily Mail reported in May that Arsenal are keen on signing Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.
This afternoon, Sterling scored only goal of the game as England kicked off Euro 2020 with a 1-0 win over Croatia at Wembley.
The City attacker ran from advance midfield and latched on to a Kalvin Phillips pass to fire home the winner.
And former Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho told talkSPORT that he saw shades of Spurs star Son in Sterling’s darting run forward.
He said: “Sterling made the run like Son at Tottenham. He did that run so many times. It’s a goal that gives them three points.”
Do Arsenal need him?
In a word, yes.
Sterling, a £49 million signing by City in 2015, would be a revelation on the red half of the North London.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette barely scored 30 goals between them in all competitions last season.
And with both the wrong side of 30, Mikel Arteta could do with another attack-minded player.
He wouldn’t play under Bukayo Saka, but he and Nicolas Pepe could alternate on the other wing considering that the latter blows hot and cold in Arteta’s eyes.
Pepe only started 16 of his 29 Premier League appearances last term, illustrating that he does often fail to make the first XI.
And with Arteta knowing Sterling from his time working as Pep Guardiola’s assistant, a move would make sense.
