Some Liverpool fans on social media are buzzing after it was announced that Dr Andreas Schlumberger has been appointed as head of recovery and performance.
The Reds have brought in a new member of the medical team, and as you can imagine, supporters were very pleased with this news.
This newly-created specialist role will support and work in close collaboration with the current performance, medical and rehabilitation leadership, according to the club’s tweet confirming the appointment.
Nobody needs to be reminded how unlucky Liverpool have been with injuries this season, with Virgil van Dijk, Thiago Alcantara and Joe Gomez suffering long-term injuries this term.
Joel Matip is also rumoured to be out of action for a number of weeks after suffering an injury against West Brom, so it’s clear to see why this new role has had to be created.
Whether or not Schlumberger can have a big impact on getting Liverpool’s top stars back on the pitch sooner rather than later remains to be seen, but the fact that the Reds are actively trying to combat their injury issues is a good sign.
Fingers crossed this spells the end of the Reds’ injury crisis.
