Leigh Griffiths has earned the ultimate comparison for any Celtic striker.

Having come off the bench to score a vital goal in Sunday’s Scottish Cup Final at Hampden, the 30-year-old was given a chance to impress in the starting lineup on Wednesday night.

With Celtic looking for revenge against Ross County, Neil Lennon showed faith in the clinical finisher and was rewarded with another goal from the former Dundee, Hibs and Wolverhampton Wanderers man.

Playing as part of a front two with Odsonne Edouard, Griffiths showed what he can offer with the vital New Year derby approaching.

His perfectly executed header impressed former Hoops forward John Hartson, who compared it to the work of the club’s greatest ever striker.

Speaking on Celtic TV, Hartson said: “That’s a couple of good goals, headed goals, that we have seen from Leigh this season.

“Again, he finds space in the box.

“It’s a difficult header because he is going away from the ball and he almost has to generate that power for himself.

“Great neck muscles there to head it back where it came from and it’s a brilliant header.

“He’s delighted with his night’s work even though he could have had a couple more.

“It’s like another player I played with, Henrik Larsson. Henrik was magnificent, not the tallest, but he had a great leap, and Leigh is a fantastic header of the ball.”

Griffiths doubled Celtic’s advantage after David Turnbull put the home side ahead in the first half.

The gap at the top of the Premiership remains 16 points, with league leaders Rangers securing a 3-0 win over St Johnstone in Perth.
