Speaking on the Highbury Squad YouTube channel, Kevin Campbell has been speaking about the impact Emile Smith Rowe could have on this Arsenal team in 2023.

It’s easy to forget because Smith Rowe has been out injured for so long, but this time last year he was arguably the Gunners’ most important player.

Only Bukayo Saka scored more goals than Smith Rowe for Arsenal next year, and if he can come back in the same vein of form, he could be a key player for the Gunners.

In fact, Campbell went as far as to say that the midfielder could be like a new signing upon his return from injury.

Like a new signing

Campbell spoke about Smith Rowe.

“We’re going to need a squad, we’re going to need it stronger and we’re going to need ESR,” Campbell said.

“Listen, he’s been training, we’re going to need ESR, he’s going to be like a new signing, we’re going to need him back and to be ready to go. He is going to have a very prominent role to play.”

Ace up their sleeve

Every pundit that has made a case against Arsenal winning the Premier League has spoken about the Gunners’ lack of depth, but that becomes a much smaller problem once Smith Rowe is back fit and firing.

Arsenal are already at the top of the table without an England international attacking midfielder in their ranks, just imagine how good they could be when they have the ability to rotate Smith Rowe with the likes of Saka and Gabriel Martinelli.

The Gunners need to move up a gear once the World Cup is over if they’re going to win the league, and Smith Rowe coming back into the fold may be just what the doctor ordered.
