Westwood started in goal for Wednesday against Leeds in the Yorkshire derby on Saturday evening, and the 34-year-old was superb.
The Republic of Ireland international made save after save for the Owls in the first half, and one was absolutely world class as he denied Leeds star Tyler Roberts from a header from a point-blank range.
The former Sunderland goalkeeper struggled to get into the first team under former ex-manager Jos Luhukay this season, but Lee Bullen brought him back and new boss Steven Bruce has kept him in.
Liam Rosenior was following the match between Leeds and Wednesday for Sky Sports, and the former Brighton and Hove Albion and Hull City full-back was impressed with the display produced by Wednesday, and has admitted his surprise that the goalkeeper has not played more than 19 matches in the Championship this season.
Rosenior said about Westwood on Sky Sport Main Event on Saturday evening (7:45pm, April 13, 2019: “If it wasn’t for Keiran Westwood, they could have been out of sight by half time.”
The Sky Sports pundit added regarding his save against Roberts: “That’s why Keiran Westwood, for me, is one of the best goalkeepers in the league and why I am astounded that he hasn’t been playing this season, because since he has been back in the team, Sheffield Wednesday have been a lot harder to score against.”
