Liam Rosenior is still putting his squad together at Chelsea, and there are players who are making a strong early impression.

The move for a new centre-back appears to be gathering momentum.

The pursuit of Jeremy Jacquet has advanced today, with reports suggesting that Chelsea have agreed personal terms with the defender. However, there may be an issue over the fee, which stands at £60 million.

Even so, it is encouraging to see investment in a position that needed strengthening, especially after initial plans had been to wait until summer.

Chelsea will also want to avoid any major departures during January as they continue building under Rosenior. The focus remains on adding depth rather than losing key pieces mid-season.

Nothing ever seems set in stone at Chelsea, but for the moment, things are looking positive for Enzo Fernandez.

Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest and made an approach, but even they know pulling him away from Stamford Bridge will not be easy.

Rosenior has made it clear how much he values Fernandez. After the win against Brentford, he shared his thoughts on the Argentine star: “So impressed. I knew what an outstanding player he was. It’s not until you see a player up close to see what he’s all about. He’s a winner.

“It’s his birthday today so I told him he should go to a steakhouse and enjoy some Argentine steak. He’s an important player.”

How important Enzo Fernandez is for Chelsea

Enzo Fernandez has taken big steps forward in his attacking play over the last year.

Since the start of the previous season, he has been involved in 36 goals across all competitions – more than any other Chelsea player, even Cole Palmer.

This campaign, he has already matched his best-ever total with six Premier League goals.

In 2025, he created more chances (51) than anyone else at the club and spent most of the year leading the league in open-play chances created.

His showing against Brentford was another reminder of how much he contributes to this side.
