Leeds United, Sheffield United and Norwich City are all vying for promotion via the automatic places.
Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior has claimed that Leeds United’s Marcelo Bielsa was overlooked for the manager of the season award because of Spygate.
The EFL confirmed on their official website that Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has been given the prestigious award, with his team currently sitting second in the Championship table.
Every manager from each club votes for who they think has done the best job during this campaign and after earning promotion to the Championship two seasons ago, the Blades could be playing Premier League football next term.
Speaking to EFL Matters on Sky Sports Football (28/03/2019 at 7:20 pm), Rosenior made it pretty clear why other managers didn’t vote for Bielsa.
“Harsh on Daniel Farke and harsh on Marcelo Bielsa,” Rosenior told Sky Sports. “Three managers who have done outstanding jobs.
“It [Spygate] might have had something to do with it [in Bielsa not winning]. Not too many managers would have voted for him after that. But Chris Wilder’s been amazing, for me.”
Many would feel that the timing of these awards are wrong because a lot can happen from now until the end of the season, especially with the race for promotion and survival being so tight.
At this moment in time, Leeds are sitting one point behind the top two and they will be looking to keep the pressure on their rivals when they host Millwall on Saturday.
The top three don’t have to play each other again this season, but the trio do have a number of tricky home and away fixtures coming up.
The likes of Aston Villa, Stoke City, Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday can all have a say on who finishes top two at the end of the campaign because they are still to play those teams in the automatic race.
