Newcastle United loanee Dwight Gayle is thriving in the Championship at West Bromwich Albion.
Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior has suggested that Newcastle United loanee Dwight Gayle is potentially good enough to play in the Premier League, but he needs a team that suits his style of play.
The 28-year-old is currently on-loan at Championship side West Brom and he is hoping to guide the club to the Premier League via the playoffs.
Throughout his career, Gayle has showcased his ability in the second tier of English football but struggled to transcend that into England’s top-flight.
After another top performance for West Brom on Friday, former promotion winner Rosenior spoke to Sky Sports Football (20/04/2019 at 8:35 pm).about Gayle’s ability at the top level.
On whether Gayle falls in between being too good for Championship and not good enough for Premier League: “I think with strikers it depends on what a manager wants,” Rosenior told EFL Championship Goals.
“At Newcastle, Rafa Benitez has gone with more physical time, they don’t have the possession that maybe they have in the Championship. I think if Dwight Gayle is good enough to play in the Premier League and score goals, he just needs to play in a team that suits his style of play.”
Albion are heading into the playoffs and as things stand they will be coming up against Midland rivals Aston Villa in the semi-finals.
If the Baggies are to succeed then Gayle will need to be on his game because he is a dangerous threat to any opponent in the Championship on his day.
Gayle has played 96 games in England’s second tier, scoring 57 goals. By contrast, he has played 99 games in the Premier League and scored 21 goals [transfermarkt].
