Leeds United will host relegation-threatened Millwall on Saturday.
Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior is adamant that Leeds United ace Pablo Hernandez should have been named in the Championship’s Team of the Season.
The EFL recently confirmed on their official website the XI players that have been named in the TOTY, with players such as Norwich striker Teemu Pukki, Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp and Hull City’s Jarod Bowen making the short list.
Playmaker Hernandez, who has been an integral part of Leeds’ promotion push, missed out, but his teammates, Kalvin Phillips and centre-back Liam Cooper were named in the XI.
Speaking to EFL Matters on Sky Sports Football (28/03/2019 at 7:25 pm), Rosenior admitted that he thought Hernandez was going to be a ‘shoo-in’ for the TOTY.
“The ones that haven’t made it, for me, Hernandez at Leeds,” Rosenior told Sky Sports. “I thought he was a shoo-in to get in there. He’s been a driving force, a creative force when he has been fit behind Leeds’ really good form.”
Whilst Marcelo Bielsa’s tactics and training methods have hit the headlines, Hernandez’s calm and creative ways have now seemingly gone unnoticed.
The 33-year-old has made the ball talk in the final third, and if need be, he has provided his team with that special moment during tough situations.
Over the course of the season, Hernandez has played 30 league games for his side, scoring 10 goals and supplying his teammates with 11 assists [transfermarkt].
Nonetheless, the Spaniard will be preparing for his side’s crucial home clash against Millwall on Saturday because more dropped points during this stage of the season are going to be very costly now.
