Liam Rosenior claims Leeds United Pablo Hernandez could win Player of the Year

Leeds United’s Pablo Hernandez has been one of the standout performers in the Championship this season.

Sky Sports pundit Liam Rosenior has waxed-lyrical about Pablo Hernandez and claimed Leeds United’s ‘key’ man could be ‘up there’ for the Championship’s Player of the Season at the end of the campaign.

The 33-year-old was in fine form on Tuesday night as he helped the Whites secure a valuable three points during their comprehensive 3-0 win over Reading at the Madejski Stadium.

Hernandez scored two well-taken goals and ran the show from the middle of the park as Marcelo Bielsa’s side moved to the top of the table, with second-placed Norwich in action on Wednesday night.

Speaking on EFL Championship Goals on Sky Sports Football (12/03/2019 at 10:15 pm), Rosenior praised Hernandez for his cleverness in the manner in which he scored his goals against the Royals.

“For me, he could be up there for the Championship Player of the Season,” Rosenior told Sky Sports. “He’s key to Leeds. This [his first] is a wonderful goal. He takes it so early and gives the goalkeeper absolutely no chance.

“This man has played for Valencia and has played for Spain. You are seeing why. He is playing in a team that suits his style. This strike again [second goal], little half touch and then bang. You can’t really read that as a goalkeeper.”

There is no doubt that if Leeds are to earn promotion then the form of Hernandez will play a huge part in that because when he is on song he gets his team moving in ways which the opposition struggle to deal with.

Over the course of the season, he has played 30 league games for the Whites, scoring 10 goals and providing his teammates with 11 assists along the way [transfermarkt].

At the weekend, Bielsa’s side face their biggest game of the season when they welcome promotion rivals Sheffield United to Elland Road.

Three points for the home team against Chris Wilder’s men would ensure that Leeds have one foot in their quest to finish in the Championship’s top two, but a defeat will just add on the pressure during the final few weeks of the season.
