Liam Rosenior has claimed that Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham has come back with a ‘massive bang’ after he helped Aston Villa beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.

The 21-year-old was on-loan at then-Premier League side Swansea City last term, but he struggled to prove his worth and ended up being part of a team that was relegated to the Championship.

As a result of his spell at the Liberty Stadium, where he only scored eight goals, Abraham decided to join Aston Villa on a season-long loan last summer and try to help them in their promotion push.

Speaking to EFL Championship Goals on Sky Sports Football (30/03/2019 at 10:20 pm), Rosenior was in awe of what Abraham has done at Villa Park this season.

“He reads where the ball is going to go before anyone else,” Rosenior told Sky Sports Football. “It’s like he teleports into a position where defenders can’t get to him [in regards to his tap-in against Blackburn]. That’s a natural gift that not many strikers have. You can’t teach that to young strikers.

“He is just a natural born goalscorer. I think he can do it at a higher level. I think he is [Premier League quality] and I think the time he had at Swansea stood him in really good to stead.

“It didn’t quite work for him at Swansea, but he’s come back at a huge club in Aston Villa with a massive bang. Hopefully, from Villa’s point of view, they can be in the Premier League with him.”

All of Abraham’s goals during this campaign have come from inside the penalty area, but that doesn’t perhaps indicate the qualities he has on the ball when he collects the ball from deep and drives at opposition players.

He has been a constant threat up top and has scored 22 goals for Villa [transfermarkt]. If he continues in his ways then he may just fire his team into a play-off spot.

At this moment in time, Dean Smith’s side are sitting fifth in the table, two points ahead of seventh-placed Bristol City, who have two games in hand.

Whilst a number of teams below Villa can overtake them if they win their games in hand, Villa will be looking to do their job and hoping they can continue to pile on the pressure in this promotion race.
