Liam Rosenior admitted during Sky Sports’ live post-match coverage of Leeds United’s win over Sheffield Wednesday (broadcast on 13/4 from 17:15) that he has been proved wrong after initially worrying about the Whites burning out over the course of a season under Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds go into the final four games of the campaign in second place, three points clear of Sheffield United. And Bielsa’s men appear to have found another gear, winning three of their last four while Sheffield United have drawn their last two.

One common criticism of Bielsa’s teams in the past has been that they struggle to maintain the intensity that they start the campaign with. But Leeds have put paid to that as they now look to be in the driving seat to secure automatic-promotion.

And after watching the Whites win 1-0 at Elland Road, Rosenior admitted that Leeds had definitely proved him wrong with the way that have continued to play.

“At the start of the season, they started on fire and I was worried,” he told Sky Sports. “Championship season. Bielsa’s first season in the Championship, but what he’s got in that squad is youth, pace and legs. And they just keep on going. They didn’t have to see the game out. Yes, there was the Matias chance, but other than that, they looked the stronger team from minute one to minute 90.”

Leeds will have taken a huge amount of confidence from their performance against Wednesday. The scoreline suggests it was a cagey contest, but the Whites dominated much of the contest and were only denied a couple of first-half goals by some inspired goalkeeping from Keiren Westwood.

The way that Leeds dealt with the pressure of playing after Sheffield United on Saturday should certainly stand them in good stead, with the Blades playing before the Whites three more times before the final day.
