Liam Kitching has explained his decision to leave Leeds United for Forest Green Rovers on his new club’s official website.

League Two outfit Rovers have signed defender Kitching from Championship club Leeds on a three-year contract.

The 19-year-old defender has explained his decision to leave the Whites, and believes that it is the right time in his career to switch clubs.

Kitching told Rovers’ official website: “I’m delighted to be here and I didn’t have any second thoughts when I heard about the opportunity.

“I came and met the manager and had a look around the club and it’s a really good place and they sold it to me straight away.

“I’ve been out on loan for the past two years and I think it is time for the step up now to really give it a good go.”

Leeds youngster Robbie Gotts has taken to Twitter to wish Kitching the best of luck in his new adventure.

Good move for Liam Kitching?

Kitching is a very good and promising young central defender, but the teenager was going to struggle to establish himself in the Leeds first team next season.

Perhaps a loan move for the 2019-20 campaign would have been better, but it is very encouraging that the defender wants to play regular first-team competitive football.

Rovers are an ambitious club, and the youngster will improve and develop playing under manager Mark Cooper at The New Lawn.
