Leeds United failed to win in the Championship last week.

Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has told The Yorkshire Evening Post the instruction that head coach Thomas Christiansen has given to the players.

Cooper, who has been on the books of Leeds since the summer of 2014 when he joined from Chesterfield, has revealed that Christiansen has told the players to get into the penalty box as it creates problems for the opposition.

While discussing the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa at Elland Road in the Championship last Friday evening, the 26-year-old defender told The Yorkshire Evening Post: “We had chances and the one (Saiz) put across the box, I gave the ball to him out wide.

“I kept going, got a bit of a nosebleed and I said to him afterwards that the pull-back was on but he went with the lads in the box and they were unlucky not to get a touch.

“The manager had been on to us to do that – to get people in the box. It causes the opposition problems.”

Christiansen’s message is simple but effective. Getting bodies inside the opposition box will throw them off and enhance Leeds’s chances of winning matches.

Leeds seem to have recovered from their slump in form, and their performance against Villa last week was quite encouraging.

The Villans have a strong squad and could be pushing for a top-two finish in the Championship this season.

The Whites are outside the playoff spots at the moment, but the West Yorkshire outfit should be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

Leeds will return to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Queens Park Rangers away from home at Loftus Road in the Championship.
