Liam Cooper says Leeds United bigger than Hull City

Former Hull City defender Liam Cooper says Leeds United are the biggest club in Yorkshire.

Yorkshire have a number of well-known football clubs, such as Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United and Hull City, and Liam Cooper believes that Leeds United are the biggest of them all, as quoted in The Telegraph.

Cooper started his professional club football career at Hull before moving to Chesterfield in 2013.

The 27-year-old central defender has been on the books of Leeds since 2014, and he has been a key figure in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds will take on United at Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday afternoon, and ahead of the Yorkshire derby, Cooper has said that the Whites are the biggest club in Yorkshire.

Cooper told The Telegraph: “I understand, being a Yorkshire lad, that Leeds are the biggest club in Yorkshire and one of the biggest clubs in the country.

“I get some stick in Hull for saying that, but it’s just the way it is. All my friends are Hull fans, but when you come to this club, you realise how big it is.

“Until your part of it, with the fans, who have been starved of top-flight football for far too long, you don’t really appreciate what it takes to play for Leeds United.”

Promotion challenge

Leeds are second in the Championship table at the moment with 73 points from 37 matches, just two points behind leaders Norwich City and two ahead of third-placed United.

The match against the Blades is not going to be decisive for Leeds in terms of clinching automatic promotion to the Premier League, but a win is certainly going to enhance the Whites’ chances.
