Leeds United’s Liam Cooper has commented on Pontus Jansson’s exit.

Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has told TEAMtalk that he was surprised to see the club sell Pontus Jansson last week – but wished him the best.
Jansson endured a difficult end to the season under Marcelo Bielsa, and some were expecting him to join a Premier League club if he was going to leave Elland Road.
However, reports earlier this month suggested that it was actually Brentford pushing to sign Jansson, and within days, the deal was done for him to head to Griffin Park.
Rather than jump up to the Premier League, Jansson has instead joined a club who finished below Leeds in the Championship table last season.
That move has left many stunned, and fans have been gutted to see such a popular player leave Elland Road after three years with the club, seemingly weakening the Leeds back line.
Ben White has come in on loan, but unless an experienced signing arrives too, much will be expected of experienced captain Cooper to lead Bielsa’s back line.

Cooper has now been asked about Jansson’s move, admitted that it was a surprise to see, but understands that the club needs to just do whatever they have to do.
Cooper added that Jansson was ‘great’ to play with, and knows that the rest of the Leeds squad will be wishing Jansson the best of luck in West London.
“It’s always a surprise but, at the end of the day, the club has got to do what the club has got to do,” said Cooper. “He was a great player to play with, he was a great lad. We just wish him all the best in his new venture,” he added.
