Bielsa has finally been appointed at Leeds as Paul Heckingbottom’s replacement.

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has underlined his excitement on Twitter after the Yorkshire club appointed Argentina manager Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road as Paul Heckingbottom’s replacement.
Bielsa, 62, brings with him a huge wealth of experience after a glittering CV that includes spells in charge of French sides Lille and Marseille, Spaniards Athletic Bilbao, Italians Lazio and countries Argentina and Chile.

His last spell came in charge of Lille in 2017, but now Bielsa has signed a three-year deal at Elland Road, tasked with taking the Championship giants back into the Premier League for the first time since 2004.
Cooper, who was given the captaincy by Thomas Christiansen last summer, posted on Twitter to welcome the Argentine to managerial position at Elland Road and stated that he is excited to start working under the new boss.
Cooper was a first-team regular last season but it remains to be seen if he remain as Pontus Jansson’s partner during 2018-19, with Bielsa likely to be keen on bringing a new centre-back to the club.
He faced plenty of criticism for his performances last season, in which he received two red cards during his 32 appearances.
Bielsa and Leeds are yet to find out who they will face on the first day of the Championship season, but will play host to Bolton Wanderers in the first round of the Carabao Cup.
