Leeds United face former boss this weekend.

Middlesbrough manager Garry Monk looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Aston Villa and Middlesbrough at Villa Park on September 12, 2017 in Birmingham, England.

All eyes will be on Garry Monk when his Middlesbrough side face Leeds United this weekend.

Monk walked out on Leeds in the summer and was replaced by Thomas Christiansen.

Many of the players in the Leeds side will be new to Monk after the Whites’ summer activity, but there will be some familiar faces too.

The game will be particularly poignant to defender Liam Cooper, providing he is selected.

At Leeds last season Cooper was snubbed by Monk, relegated to third choice centre-back,

Monk chose to sign Pontus Jansson and bring in Kyle Bartley on loan, who formed a terrific partnership at the back.

The former manager was not convinced by Cooper. He selected him to start just eight Championship games.

Already this season Cooper has started 12 matches under Christiansen.

When Cooper did play last season he often struggled, but this could be attributed to a lack of rhythm, playing once every few weeks, rather than getting a run of games.

This season he has looked sharper, and is embracing his role as club captain.

The weekend match against Middlesbrough is the perfect opportunity for Cooper to prove a point to Monk that he should have been trusted more.
