Leeds United currently top the Championship after a superb start to the season, with four wins coming in their opening six games.

In comments reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, Liam Cooper has insisted that Leeds know that they have the advantage over all of their rivals in the Championship when it comes to fitness – and it is a fantastic position to be in to know that.

The Whites have been superb at the start of the new campaign. Marcelo Bielsa’s men go into the international break at the top of the Championship having won four and drawn two of their opening six games.

It is a similar start to the one that Leeds made last season before they dramatically tailed off as the campaign went on. But there is a difference between what the Whites did last term and what they are doing this year to get the better of sides. And captain Cooper has suggested that their stamina and endurance is partially behind their brilliant form.

“One thing we know this season is that we are fitter than any team in the league and it’s a great feeling to have,” said Cooper, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“It’s unbelievable knowing that you are going to run over teams in the second half and if the going gets tough and it’s the last dying stages.”

Given the similarities with last season, it would be little surprise if many Leeds fans were trying to stay somewhat reserved about their team’s chances of promotion until after their first game following the international break.

Their trip to Millwall last season saw Leeds suffer their first defeat of the campaign, and it was a performance that highlighted that Thomas Christiansen had perhaps not addressed all of the key issues within the squad.

If Bielsa can take his side to The Den and they emerge with a positive result, it will surely do wonders for the club’s belief ahead of a run of games that, on paper, would have looked a lot nicer, when the fixtures were announced, than the start that they were handed and actually largely breezed through.
