Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that he was confused when Tyler Roberts shot from long range against Hull City.

The Whites were on the road again on Tuesday night, as having drawn 1-1 at Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night, they faced another short trip, this time to take on Hull.

It was a tight affair at the KCOM Stadium, but Leeds had that one piece of magic to claim the 1-0 win, as Roberts scored the only goal of the game to hand Leeds a 1-0 victory.

The Welsh forward jinked past one challenge after dropping deep to pick the ball up, and whilst he was surrounded by Hull players, he went for goal from 25 yards – and found the bottom corner.

It was a superb finish from Roberts, who has now hit three goals and one assist in his last four games, as he really starts to show his quality following his January move from West Bromwich Albion.

Roberts, 19, has really stepped up in Kemar Roofe’s absence, and Leeds captain Cooper has offered huge praise for the youngster following his latest goal.

Cooper has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Roberts was actually struggling before the game with a toe problem, but went out and performed anyway, producing the magic Leeds needed at 0-0 on Tuesday.

Cooper added that he was confused when Roberts decided to shoot from long range, but was delighted to see the effort find the net, and backed the forward for more goals moving forward.

“We’ve scored a lot of goals but sometimes it takes that bit of magic for someone to come up with and this time it was Tyler,” said Cooper. “He was struggling before the game with a toe injury and credit to him. He went on the pitch and pulled it out the bag for us. He wants to play, he wants to score goals and that’s the type of person he is. He’s played very well and the boy’s flying. He’d been struggling before the game but he’s pulled through and it was a great finish again at a great time. We needed that.”

“When he hit it you think ‘what are you shooting from there for?’ Then it goes in the bottom bin, you run over and go mad. I’m absolutely buzzing for him but hopefully that’s the third of many,” he added.
