Leeds United full back Lewie Coyle penned a new contract with the club on Thursday evening – and he has received messages of support on Twitter from team-mates Liam Cooper and Matt Grimes.

Coyle, 21, has been on the books at Elland Road since 2004, and has been gradually making his way up through the ranks with his boyhood club.

The right back was handed his first start for the club by former boss Steve Evans in an FA Cup tie against Rotherham United back in January of this year, and ended the season with 13 appearances to his name.

This term, Coyle has played five times, starting all four of the club’s EFL Cup ties, and coming on as a substitute once in the Championship as he continues to develop at Elland Road.

Whilst Luke Ayling has been Leeds’ first choice right back so far this term, fans have been left concerned by Coyle’s future at the club, given that his contract was set to expire at the end of this season.

However, Coyle has now penned a new deal with the club, extending his contract until the summer of 2019 – and his new contract prompted messages of support from two team-mates.

Defender Liam Cooper and midfielder Matt Grimes both took to Twitter to react to the deal, stating that it was ‘fully deserved’ for Coyle.

The youngster will now be looking to kick on under Garry Monk, and whilst Gaetano Berardi’s return may push him down the pecking order, Coyle now has the security of knowing that he can develop with Leeds over the coming years.
